Flow topology and unsteady cavitation dynamics in the wake of a backward facing step was investigated using high speed videography time-resolved X-ray densitometry, along with static dynamic pressure measurements. The measurements are used to inform understanding underlying mechanisms observed flow as they related shock wave induced instabilities. differences cavity behavior at different numbers examined highlight features such pair cavitating spanwise vortices shear layer propagating bubbly front. speeds conditions estimated based on void-fraction X-T diagram compared those computed one-dimensional Rankine Hugoniot jump condition. two speeds(computed measured) found be comparable. effect compressibility mixture is determined by estimating local sound homogeneous ‘frozen model’ ‘equilibrium model’. current estimation suggests that expression determine closer classic than sound.
